Plumbagin Induces Apoptosis in Human NSCLC Cell Lines through NF-kB Inactivation

چکیده
Lung cancer is currently the commonest malignancy and the leading cause of cancer-related death in the world (Jemal et al., 2009). Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) represents about 80% of primary lung cancer cases and approximately two thirds of these patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage (Jemal et al., 2009). Although several effective chemotherapeutic agents are administrated, the platinum-based regimen is the standard initial treatment for NSCLC patients (Pujol et al., 2006). However, the efficacy of the regimen for NSCLC has been reported to be only 30-40% based on NSCLC trials involving unselected patients (Ohe et al., 2007). Identifying novel agents with fewer side effects and more effective therapy is of significance for prognosis of patients with NSCLC. Plumbagin (5-hydroxy-2methyl-1, 4-naphthoquinone), a Chinese traditional herb extracted from the root of Plumbago zeylanica L has been reported in the literature to have various pharmacological

Cytotoxicity and Apoptosis Induced by a Plumbagin Derivative in Estrogen Positive MCF-7 Breast Cancer Cells
Plumbagin [5-hydroxy- 2-methyl-1, 4-naphthaquinone] is a well-known plant derived anticancer lead compound. Several efforts have been made to synthesize its analogs and derivatives in order to increase its anticancer potential. In the present study, plumbagin and its five derivatives have been evaluated for their antiproliferative potential in one normal and four human cancer cell lines. Treatm...
متن کاملAnticancer mechanism of plumbagin, a natural compound, on non-small cell lung cancer cells.
BACKGROUND Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Prevailing treatment options have limited therapeutic success in lung cancer, particularly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), as it becomes resistant to therapy. Hence, better therapeutic options are immediately required for lung cancer. Plumbagin, a natural compound has been recently examined for its an...
متن کاملInduction of Heme Oxygenase -1 By Lipocalin 2 Mediated By Nf-Kb Transcription Factor
Purpose: Effect of lipocalin 2 on the expression of heme oxygenase I , II and NF-kB transcription factor was the purpose of this survey. Materials and Methods: Lcn2 was cloned to pcDNA3.1 plasmid by using genetic engineering method. The recombinant vector was transfected to CHO and HEK293T to establish stable cell expressing lipocalin 2. The presence of lipocalin 2 gene in these cells was confi...
متن کاملاثر سینرژیستی ایندول تری کربینول با دوکسوروبیسین در افزایش القای آپوپتوز بر رده سلولی لوسمی لنفوبلاستیک حاد (NALM-6)
Background and Aim: Indole-3-carbinol (I3C), found in Brassica species vegetables, exhibits antitumor effects. It has been shown that I3C induces apoptosis in various cell types through inactivation of the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF- k B) pathway. Anthracyclines such as doxorubicin, is widely used in the treatment of hematological malignancies, induce apoptosis in tumor cells via DNA damage and...
متن کاملEvaluation of Growth Inhibitory and Apoptosis Inducing Activity of Human Calprotectin on the Human Gastric Cell Line (AGS)
Background: Calprotectin is cytotoxic agent that its anti-tumor effects are governed through suppression of topoisomerase II a key enzyme in apoptosis. In previous studies, cytotoxicity and apoptotic effects of calprotectin are shown on different cancer cell lines, but not human gastric cancer cell lines. In the present study, cytotoxicity and apoptotic effects of calprotectin on human gastric ...
